    911 service out in some Michigan counties

    KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – State police report a statewide outage of the 911 system in Michigan overnight.
    The outage followed an upgrade to the 911 system, state police said. Crew are working to restore the service.
    State police said those with emergencies can call the Gaylord Regional Communication Center at 989-732-5141 or the non-emergency number for local dispatch or go to a fire department.
    Grand Rapids police said that residents can call the non-emergency number at 616-456-3400 if 911 doesn’t work.
    Calhoun County is also among those with an outage. Authorities said that those in Calhoun County who need emergency service should text 911 or call 269-781-0912.
    Kalamazoo and Newaygo counties reported early Friday, Jan. 31, that 911 service has been restored in those counties.
    Kalamazoo and Battle Creek police reported having high-visibility patrols out overnight.
    Many outages are in the Upper Peninsula. State police there said in a statement: “If you reside in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon, and/or Schoolcraft Counties and are unable to dial 9-1-1, please dial 866-411-0018 for any emergency need. If you reside in a county not listed, contact your local non-emergency dispatch number.”
